El Camino Real detours begin this week in Atascadero

Drivers should expect delays between Highway 41 and Rosario Avenue

– Temporary detours will be in place on northbound and southbound El Camino Real between Highway 41 and Rosario Avenue from Monday, May 19 through Friday, June 6 due to road work related to the El Camino Real Downtown Safety and Parking Enhancement Project.

Work between Highway 41 and Traffic Way will include pavement striping and the installation of crosswalk pavers. Between Traffic Way and Rosario Avenue, crews will complete asphalt milling, paving, and striping. Some roadway intersections and crosswalks will close intermittently during periods of active construction. All other roadways will remain open.

Message and directional signs will be posted. Flaggers will be stationed at intersections as needed to direct traffic along the temporary detour routes. Motorists are advised to follow all posted signage and plan for delays near the construction areas.

Access to businesses along El Camino Real will remain open. Free parking is available throughout the downtown area.

The improvements are part of the El Camino Real Downtown Safety and Parking Enhancement Project, which focuses on safety, parking capacity and the overall condition of the corridor between Highway 41 and Rosario Avenue.

Project updates and traffic advisories are available at atascadero.org/ECRProject. Community members can also sign up for construction alerts at atascadero.org/News-List.
