Driver crashes car into Atascadero library
The Atascadero Library sustained superficial damage to its new building on Capistrano Avenue Tuesday afternoon when an elderly woman drove into a parking spot in front of the library.
As she went to park her foot slipped off the brake and ran her car into the building, Atascadero Police Department Sargent Caleb Davis said.
“[The damage] is significant for sure,” San Luis Obispo County Library Director Christopher Barnickel said. “She plowed in it hard enough to move the 200-pound planter in front of the library.” He added that he guessed the woman mistook the gas for the brake.
Davis said that there was no structural damage to the building, although Barnickel said that building is definitely damaged, saying that you can see it from inside the library, but adding that there is no gaping hole.
There were no injuries, including to the driver, and drugs and alcohol were not though to be involved. It was “just an honest mistake,” Davis said.
