Dr. René Bravo named SLO citizen of the year
Local doctor honored at San Luis Obispo Chamber of Commerce annual dinner
– Dr. René Bravo, a community leader who has been “devoted to improving the overall health, safety, and wellbeing of the community,” was named the 2020/2021 Citizen of the Year during the San Luis Obispo Chamber of Commerce’s annual dinner on Saturday in front of nearly 500 attendees. This is the chamber’s most prestigious honor presented at the annual dinner in recognition of service to the community of San Luis Obispo.
As the owner of Bravo Pediatrics, Dr. Bravo’s devotion both inside and outside of the workplace has positively affected countless lives in the community, according to the chamber. He has been a “champion for local access to accurate COVID-19 vaccine information for children,” according to the chamber, and has spearheaded an educational campaign across the county to “ensure all families have equal access to quality information and data.”
Within the community, Dr. Bravo’s volunteer efforts have included the First Five of SLO County, the Foundation for SLO Public Libraries, the Women’s Shelter of SLO County, and the American Cancer Society, among others.
“Anytime you are fortunate enough to work alongside him, he puts his whole heart into it and knows how to get answers and solve problems,” says Lynn Cooper, a longtime friend of Dr. Bravo. “It’s an honor to work with him on any project.”
After years of education across California and a residency at Stanford, Dr. Bravo has practiced pediatric medicine locally for more than 35 years. For the last 22 years, he has owned and operated Bravo Pediatrics, providing care to thousands of families locally. Dr. Bravo has also worked to provide the best possible medical services to as many people as possible, especially to those that may not otherwise have access.
“He is a man of the utmost integrity,” said Pastor Doug Pittman. “He cares about other people; his decisions are never about himself…he makes decisions considering those around him.”
“I am humbled to receive this award tonight,” said Dr. Bravo after receiving the honor. “I have to say thank you to all the tireless health care workers out there in our community for their work as well. Thank you to the SLO Chamber for this great recognition.”
