Donors needed at Templeton blood drive Thursday
During June, Vitalant is thanking donors with a $10 gift card
– As summer approaches, Vitalant, one of the nation’s largest nonprofit blood and biotherapies healthcare organizations, is urging eligible donors to give blood to help prevent a seasonal shortage. With school out and families on vacation, Vitalant typically sees fewer donors during this time of year.
An upcoming blood drive will be held on Thursday, June 6, at Adventist Health Twin Cities Hospital in Templeton from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Vitalant reminds eligible donors that patients need lifesaving blood transfusions year-round. During June, Vitalant is thanking donors with a $10 gift card through Donor Rewards and a chance to win one of five $5,000 gift cards in the Summer Adventure Gas Giveaway.
While all blood types are needed, there is an urgent need for type O blood donations—the most transfused blood type. Type O donors can maximize their impact by giving a Power Red donation, which provides a concentrated dose of red cells. Platelet donations are also in constant demand as they must be transfused within five days of donation and are primarily given to cancer patients undergoing treatment.
“It’s simple, donating blood saves lives,” said Susan Noone, regional director for Vitalant. “We need to see at least 250 donors every day along the Central Coast to meet the needs of patients who are relying on that blood to help give them a second chance.”
The upcoming blood drive at Adventist Health Twin Cities Hospital is one of the dozens of community blood drives Vitalant organizes in San Luis Obispo County each month.
