Donajean McMillan dies at 95
–Donajean McMillan was born in the old Paso Robles Hospital on August 4, 1922 to Don and Alta McMillan. She grew up on the family ranch in Shandon, raising cattle and growing hay. She told stories of riding her pony to school and spending lots of time with family. She was a Belle in the Pioneer Day Parade and loved everything Paso Robles. After graduating from Shandon High School she went to San Jose State and lived in the dorms with her cousin. This was quiet an adjustment for a small town girl and she returned home after a year. She later earned her degree in education from Cal Poly.
She taught at many local elementary schools including Santa Margarita, Templeton, and Shandon. She was loved by all her students and still kept in contact with many. She was known for her wonderful memory and her thoughtfulness to call everyone on their birthday or anniversary. She was known to everyone as “Granny”. She passed away on September 6 in her current home of Magnolia Senior Center where she received wonderful care. In lieu of flowers a donation to the Pioneer Museum in Paso Robles in her name would be greatly appreciated.
