District attorney urges vigilance against property fraud in new video

San Luis Obispo County District Attorney Dan Dow released a new public service announcement on Thursday, urging property owners and real estate professionals to stay alert against scams targeting property and title theft.

The San Luis Obispo County District Attorney’s Office Real Estate Fraud Unit is actively investigating and working to disrupt these title theft schemes.

“Title theft occurs when a criminal impersonates a property owner and transfers title of the property to themselves or, while impersonating the owner, sells the property to an unwitting buyer and steals the sales proceeds,” Dow said.

The district attorney’s office has been notifying the public and collaborating with real estate professionals to protect landowners from these schemes.

If you discover that your property has been fraudulently listed for sale or sold, contact the District Attorney’s Office at slocounty.ca.gov/da or your local law enforcement agency.
