Officials investigate decomposing body found south of pier
–An investigation is underway after a decomposing body was found washed ashore at Pismo Beach on Monday at approximately 1 p.m. Visitors to the area were walking along the beach when they discovered a body that had washed ashore about a mile south of the Pismo Beach Pier. They contacted law enforcement who attended the scene.
The San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office and its coroner’s unit, State Parks Rangers and Pismo Beach Police responded to the scene. Sheriff’s Office spokesman Tony Cipolla said the body is that of an adult male. “Because the body was partially decomposed, it is believed to have been in the water for some time,” he said. “At this time, investigators with the coroner’s office are in the process of trying to positively identify the body. An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday.”
