COVID-19: Third case reported, authorities prohibit on-site alcohol sales for St. Patrick’s Day
Order restricts on-site alcohol sales from Mon. at 5 p.m. to Wed. at 12 p.m.
–The County of San Luis Obispo Public Health Department reports today that a third individual in San Luis Obispo County has tested positive for novel coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). This individual is a household member of the second SLO County resident confirmed to have the illness. The individual is recovering in isolation at home and is fully cooperating with the Public Health Department’s investigation.
Following this confirmation and Gov. Newsom’s direction on March 15 regarding protective actions for bars and restaurants, County Administrative Officer and Emergency Services Director Wade Horton issued an executive order Monday at 2:30 p.m. to protect the public’s health by temporarily prohibiting alcohol sales at onsite alcohol-serving establishments, including all bars, restaurants, and all locations that serve alcohol on site. The order is in effect from Monday, March 16, 2020, at 5 p.m. to Wednesday, March 18, 2020, at 12:01 p.m.
“We need to take immediate action to slow the spread of the virus over the St. Patrick’s Day Holiday and to limit large gatherings in public-serving spaces,” said Horton.
The health department will provide additional direction to inform local businesses in implementing the governor’s guidance upon receipt of the guidance document from the Governor’s office.
