COVID-19: SLO County reports a record day with 72 new cases
Sixth death reported in county
–San Luis Obispo County reported 72 new cases of coronavirus between Monday and Tuesday as of 1:30 p.m., bringing the total number of people who have locally tested positive for COVID-19 since March to 1,078.
A sixth San Luis Obispo County resident has died with the virus, the County Public Health Department reported late Tuesday. The person was in their 90s and lived at a long-term care facility, and was not hospitalized, according to reports.
The source of transmission was person-to-person spread at the long-term care facility.
“Our hearts go out to the family and all those who are touched by this loss,” said County Health Officer Dr. Penny Borenstein.
There are currently 374 active cases of the coronavirus in SLO County. On June 1 the county reported just 17 active cases. The hospitalization rate has been relatively stable with 14 patients currently hospitalized, and six now in the ICU.
The county reports 699 people have recovered from the virus, 359 are currently recovering at home. Click here for the latest statistics.
The county has officially been added to the state’s watch list due to the growing number of coronavirus cases. Local officials warned that some businesses in some sectors should prepare to close pending a state order. On Monday, the governor ordered the closure of many sectors for indoor activities in all counties.
People at higher risk should stay home as much as possible and consider ways of getting food and prescriptions delivered through family, social, or commercial networks. All residents, regardless of risk factors, should take precautions to limit the spread of COVID-19.
