– County officials are backing Tom O’Malley and his bid to continue as the Mayor of the City of Atascadero. They cite O’Malley’s history of effective leadership and his philosophy of being positive, productive and pro-active in serving his neighbors and constituents. O’Malley’s endorsers at the county level include:

  • Debbie Arnold, Fifth District Supervisor
  • Lynn Compton, Fourth District Supervisor
  • Dan Dow, San Luis Obispo County District Attorney
  • Jim Erb, San Luis Obispo County Auditor-Controller
  • Gere Sibbach, San Luis Obispo County Auditor-Controller (ret.)
  • Ian Parkinson, San Luis Obispo County Sheriff
  • Tom Bordonaro, San Luis Obispo County Assessor

“Tom is always in touch with the needs and concerns of our constituents. His tireless work has been beneficial for our entire North County. Tom has my endorsement,” said Arnold.

O’Malley, the first directly-elected Mayor of Atascadero, is a life-long resident of the city. He is also supported by former Atascadero Mayors Roberta Fonzi, Ray Johnson, Marty Kudlac and Bob Wilkins as well as current Mayors Steve Martin (Paso Robles) and Shelly Higginbotham (Pismo Beach), among others.

About Tom O’Malley

Tom and Peggy, third generation residents of Atascadero, recently celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary. They have three children and seven grandchildren. Tom received his B.A. in Economics at U.C.S.B., an M.A. from Cal Poly and has extensive financial and computer systems management experience in the public and private sectors. Together they operate Portola Inn Bed & Breakfast, offering weddings and community fundraisers.

After serving on Atascadero’s Planning Commission, Tom was elected to the city council with the goal of building consensus in what was then a divided community. He helped develop a Public Trust Program and worked with the League of Women Voters to establish a “Visit With Your Mayor” program which has been extended county-wide. Tom is Atascadero’s first directly-elected mayor.

Tom believes autonomy and self-reliance serve Atascadero citizens best. He has worked to make Atascadero self-sufficient and self-sustaining both economically and jurisdictionally. His programs encourage economic growth and entrepreneurship while blocking the unwanted infringement of other levels of government on local issues.

Tom believes community service binds together and builds up the residents of Atascadero. He is an active member of the Chamber of Commerce and the Atascadero Kiwanis Club. He has initiated several community fundraising events such as the annual Kiwanis Mayor’s Winemaker Dinner. He supports local organizations including ECHO, RISE, Cycle de Mayo and many others. He has served as Chairperson of many SLO County organizations such as the Economic Vitality Corporation.
