County firefighters headed to Oak Fire in Mariposa
Oak Fire near Yosemite largest in the state currently
– Strike Team 1471A, made up of firefighters from Cal Fire, the Camp Roberts Fire Department, the San Luis Obispo City Fire Department, the Morro Bay Fire Fire Department, and the Five Cities Fire Department, is headed to Mariposa near Yosemite National Park this week to help with the Oak Fire.
At 15,603 acres, the Oak Fire is the largest wildfire in California right now and the biggest fire in the state since the start of 2022, according to a report by SF Gate. Over 3,800 residents have evacuated due to the blaze, including in the community of Jerseydale and the Lushmeadows subdivision in Mariposa. Cal Fire estimated 2,693 structures are threatened and 10 structures have been destroyed and five damaged.
