County deputies kill armed suspect in Los Osos
– The San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a deputy-involved shooting that occurred early Wednesday in the 2300 block of Fresno Street in Los Osos.
At approximately 11:55 p.m. on July 1, the Sheriff’s Office received a call for service regarding suspicious circumstances in the area. The reporting party expressed concern for her safety due to the presence of a male subject, known to her, who was reportedly near her residence. She reported that the man had a history of violent behavior and was known to possess weapons.
Deputies arrived and contacted the reporting party just after midnight on July 2. While one deputy spoke with her, other deputies began searching the area for the subject. The man, a 40-year-old from Chowchilla, was observed near the residence shortly after.
As deputies made contact, the man presented a handgun. Both deputies fired their service weapons. The man was struck and went to the ground.
Deputies immediately broadcast that shots had been fired and requested backup and medical assistance. They began rendering aid to the man. Medics were cleared to enter the scene at approximately 12:15 a.m. Deputies continued providing aid until medics arrived. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.
No deputies were injured. There are no outstanding suspects and no ongoing threat to public safety.
The Sheriff’s Detective Division is conducting the investigation. Sheriff Ian Parkinson and members of the Sheriff’s executive team responded to the scene, which remains secured and under active processing. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.
The deputies involved will be placed on administrative leave, per standard procedure, according to the sheriff’s office.
