County denies responsibility in teen’s death at crisis facility
Elina Branco died in May at county’s crisis stabilization unit
– A recent court filing asserts that San Luis Obispo County is not responsible for the death of 19-year-old Paso Robles resident Elina Branco, who died in May at the county’s crisis stabilization unit after being admitted following an overdose, according to a recent report by the San Luis Obispo Tribune.
Branco’s mother, Linda Cooper, filed a lawsuit in September, alleging her daughter went unchecked for hours despite facility records indicating overnight checks.
The county, along with Sierra Mental Wellness Group, denies the allegations, contending the lawsuit lacks sufficient grounds. A status conference is scheduled for Dec. 23.
