Cornhole tournament happening this weekend
The Knights of Columbus & Kiwanis present tournament to fundraise for high school robotics team
The 4th Annual Showdown Charity Cornhole Tournament will return on Friday & Saturday, Sept. 20 & 21 at Sunken Gardens in Downtown Atascadero. The Knights of Columbus and Kiwanis of Atascadero are back for 2 days, with a small, One-on-One Tournament on Friday, starting at 3:30 p.m. On Saturday, they will have the 2-person team tournament, with registration starting at 8 a.m. Proceeds from this event benefit the Atascadero High School, 3-Time World Champion, Greybots Robotics Team #973.
Kick-off to the Cornhole games begins on Friday at 2:30 p.m. with check-in, game at 3:30 p.m. On Saturday, plan for a whole day of games, as there is a 9-game minimum for this fun tournament.
On Friday, Sept. 20 there will be the One-on-One Play Double Elimination Tournament with check-in as early as 2:30 p.m. Game starts at 3:30 p.m. until 5 p.m. 1st-4th place will win trophies and cash prizes (50/50 of cash taken in). Cost to register is $40 per player.
On Saturday, Sept. 21, check-in is at 8 a.m. with the toss at 9:30 a.m. There will be an 8-Team Round Robin play for “A” and “B” bracket placement in the morning. The tournament will break for lunch from 12-1:30 p.m. and host the Finals from 1:30 – 5 p.m. Teams that place 1st-4th will play in the “A” Bracket double-elimination tournament for up to $2,000 in cash prizes, for 1st-6th place teams with a full field of 128 teams. Teams that finish 5th-8th will play in the “B” Bracket, for cash prizes totaling up to $1,000 for 1st-6th place teams, with a full field of 128 teams. Pre-registration is $80 and on game day it goes up to $100 per team.
In addition to Cornhole, there will be a $50 prize for the best team costume, as well as a Jenga challenge. Cash prizes apply to adult teams only (ages 12 & over) and can total $3,000 with a 128-team sell out. Trophies will be given for 1st through 3rd place. There will also be a “Killer Shot” and “Most Points” with a $10 buy-in for each and a $100 cash prize for 1st place. There will be coffee and pastries available to start your day, with food and drinks for lunch available for purchase from Kiwanis of Atascadero.
