There are over 30 recognized biodiversity hotspots in the world, and the Charles Paddock Zoo highlights five of them, including Madagascar, Indo-Burma, Tropical Andes, West Africa, and California. Many of the zoo residents are part of a globally managed program to preserve animals and their habitats. There are several unique animal species not often seen in similarly-sized facilities, including fossa, red pandas, Malayan tiger, lemurs, and meerkats, as well as many other exciting and interesting mammals, birds, reptiles, and insects. The Charles Paddock Zoo offers the experience to see these animals up close.
The Charles Paddock Zoo is the Central Coast’s only zoo that is accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums and home to hundreds of animal species. The zoo is open daily, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and is located at Atascadero Lake Park, 9100 Morro Road in Atascadero.
