Construction project to result in closures next week
–A project to improve eight miles in both directions of US Highway 101 from north of Monterey Road to the San Marcos Creek Bridge in San Luis Obispo County to south of the East Garrison Overcrossing near Camp Roberts in Monterey County will continue with the following closures beginning Wednesday, April 12.
• The northbound US Highway 101 left turn lane at San Marcos Road will be closed 24/7 beginning Wednesday, April 12 through Thursday, April 27. This closure is necessary for drainage, pavement, structural and striping work in preparation for the northbound/southbound detours on US 101. Motorists headed northbound may detour onto Wellsona Road to San Marcos Road or exit US 101 at 1oth Street and re-enter southbound US 101 via Cemetery Road before making a right hand turn onto San Marcos Road.
• A long-term closure for motorists wishing to turn left from San Marcos Road onto northbound US Highway 101 will begin Wednesday, April 12. This closure is necessary for safety during median construction of the southbound San Marcos Creek Bridge.
Electronic message boards have been activated to inform the community about these closures. Motorists will be able to turn right at this location. This closure will last until this fall.
This project will include a realignment of US 101 to accommodate a new southbound on-ramp at South Mission Street, paving US 101 and nearby ramps and lowering the profile of US 101 at Camp Roberts to achieve a minimum bridge clearance height. In addition, drainage systems, guardrail and lighting will be improved within this corridor.
The contractor for this $53 million project is Security Paving of Sylmar, CA. It is scheduled to be complete in 2019.
