Community turns out for Showdown Cornhole Tournament
More than 50 teams participate in 6th annual event
– More than 50 teams took part Friday and Saturday in Atascadero’s 6th annual Showdown Charity Cornhole Tournament. The Knights of Columbus coordinated the event. Proceeds benefit the North County Adaptive Sports and Recreation Program and Escuela Del Rio.
Mike LoPicolo of the Knights of Columbus said the weather was perfect. He said he got a lot of support in putting the tournament together from the City of Atascadero, Boy Scout Troop 51, and many volunteers.

Jim Wilkins of Atascadero Historical Society talked with Deputy City Manager Terrie Banish about a new display in the Rotunda showing the printing history of Atascadero.
Besides the main tournament, there was a $50 prize for the best team costume. The tournament offers cash prizes, which can total up to $3,000 for the winning team.
Many of the team names showed profound creativity. The Unofficial Best Team Name was the “Atascornderos.”
During the tournament, the City of Atascadero also provided Historic Tours of the Rotunda. Jim Wilkins of Atascadero Historical Society talked with Deputy City Manager Terrie Banish about a new display in the Rotunda showing the printing history of Atascadero. Banish described how she set type when she worked for the Tribune back as a teenager back in the late 80s and 90s.
