Community remembers 9/11 with stair climb, ceremony, aid fair
Paso Robles firefighters held annual climb Sept. 6 at fairgrounds
– Paso Robles firefighters held their annual memorial stair climb on Sept. 6 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Paso Robles Event Center, also known as the Mid-State Fairgrounds. Participants climbed 1,980 steps in tribute to first responders who died on Sept. 11, 2001. The event was open to the public and raised funds for the Alisa Ann Ruch Burn Foundation.
In San Luis Obispo, citizens are invited today to visit the 9/11 memorial at Fire Station 1, located at 2160 Santa Barbara Ave. White roses honoring the 403 first responders who died in the line of duty will be on display.
At 8:46 a.m., the time the first plane struck the World Trade Center, a brief ceremony will take place. It will include a moment of silence, the lowering of flags, the placing of roses, and a message from the fire chief.
Aditionally, the South San Luis Obispo County Democratic Club is also hosting the 9/11 Patriot Day Mutual Aid Fair at Santa Rosa Park from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. The event will include a fundraiser, dance, barbecue, and blood drive.
