Clay creations arts and crafts class starting soon

Clay Creations Class Morro Bay

The classes will run over a two week time period

Art Center Morro Bay at 835 Main Street will host a two weeks long clay arts and crafts class for children that begins on Aug. 3.

There will be two class sections, one for the 6-8-year-old age range from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and one for the 9-12-year-old age range from 1-4 p.m. There will be four classes over a two-week timespan: Aug. 3, 5, 10, and 12.

The classes will be taught by Brooke Deegan, who is a university student studying graphic design, physical arts and psychology. She plans to continue her education with a master’s degree in art therapy.

During the first week, students will use natural air-dry clay to learn different methods of hand-building while making several ceramic pieces. In week two, when the pottery is dry, the students will complete their projects with permanent acrylic paint.

In addition to clay, students will use a variety of other materials to create art inspired by Native American cultures, including design based on traditional Lakota design and techniques. Students will learn about the colors used and what they represent to the culture.

Deegan will seal the clay and ensure that it’s ready for pick up after Aug. 14 during normal hours of operation at the gallery.

The classes will only cost $80 with all supplies included. Tickets can be purchased at the event page.
