City of Atascadero to host A-town Park skate ribbon cutting

– The City of Atascadero and A-town Park will hold a public ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Outdoor Skate Area at George C. Beatie Skate Park on Jan. 16 at 4:30 p.m. The event will take place at 5493 Traffic Way in Atascadero.
The ceremony marks the completion of recent improvements to the outdoor riding area, including mill and overlay surface work intended for skateboarders and scooter riders. The updated layout accommodates larger skate areas while maintaining dedicated ramps for scooters. The City contracted Tatum Asphalt to complete the surface improvements.
Additional updates include exterior painting in multiple gray tones and installation of a canvas awning displaying the City logo and skate park name. The City contracted Browder Painting and Shoreline Awning to complete the work.
A-town Park has been operated for 17 years by Kevin Campion and Andrea Campion, who work with the City of Atascadero to maintain the facility and offer programming for the community, including youth classes, camps, and evening family events.
The park includes 8,000 square feet of indoor space and 7,000 square feet of outdoor skating areas and provides a supervised environment for skateboarding and scooter riding. The facility offers rentals and a pro shop. Hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday from noon to 5 p.m., and Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. Free skate is available Monday through Friday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. for students, with skating available at other times for $5 with a punch pass.
A-town Park has participated in the Monster SK8 program and has served as a starting point for several professional riders. The park is home to professional scooter rider Chris Farris, who has competed internationally, placing in multiple International Scooter Association competitions for Action Space, earning second place in the International Scooter Association Worlds Park Final, and ranking first in the United States. Claire Parks is a two-time world champion who recently returned from Tokyo after placing silver at the World’s competition.
The City of Atascadero and A-town Park invite community members to attend the Jan. 16 event. Refreshments will be available while supplies last. Attendees will have an opportunity to tour the facility and learn about programs and camps.
