City of Atascadero recruiting new fire chief
Position open as outgoing chief set to retire in June
–The City of Atascadero is recruiting for a new fire chief to join the Atascadero Department of Fire and Emergency Services, due to the current fire chief’s upcoming retirement. The city is seeking applicants with a solid background in fire service administration to lead a 21 person full-time team plus seasonal firefighters which respond to emergency situations, from fire to medical aid. The new fire chief is expected to be appointed by September 1, 2016.
The City of Atascadero announced in April that Fire Chief Kurt Stone would retire from the position which he has held with the City’s Fire Department for nearly 15 years, since his appointment as chief in June of 2001. Stone’s last day with the Atascadero Fire Department is expected to be June 24.
The Atascadero Department of Fire and Emergency Services responds to medical aid, structure fires, wild land fires, vehicle traffic collisions, hazardous materials incidents, technical rescues and public service assists. Responding to about 3000 calls per year, the department operates from two fire stations with six fire engines, two command vehicles, a ladder truck, a 4X4 ambulance and a technical rescue unit. The department has 21 full-time personnel which include the Fire Chief, a Fire Marshal/Code Enforcement Officer and an Administrative Assistant. Seasonal firefighters are used to support the department during fire season.
Atascadero Fire Station One is located just outside of the downtown corridor at the corner of Traffic Way and Lewis Avenue. Fire Station Two is located south of Santa Rosa Road along 101 on West Front road.
