City approves community road report, highlights upcoming projects
Neighborhood road improvements are funded by Measure F-14
– The Atascadero City Council approved the 2024 annual Community Road Report at its meeting on Jan. 14. The report details recent neighborhood road improvements, drainage upgrades, and roadside slope repairs. It also provides information on planned road projects for 2025.
Neighborhood road improvements are funded by Measure F-14, a half-cent sales tax approved by voters in 2014. Since its passage, the measure has supported resurfacing or rehabilitating more than 50 centerline miles of city-maintained streets.
In November, Atascadero voters approved the Local Roads and Vital Services Funding Extension, known as Measure L-24, with 71% support. The measure will continue the half-cent sales tax originally established through Measure F-14. It is expected to generate about $3 million annually to fund road repairs, address aging infrastructure, and support local government services.
A citizen oversight committee will monitor the use of the funds. Revenue collection from Measure L-24 will begin in 2027 when Measure F-14 expires.
“Approving Measure L-24 allows the city to continue investing in neighborhood road improvements and infrastructure for the community. I am grateful to the voters for their support and trust in using these funds for our neighborhoods,” said Mayor Charles Bourbeau.
Mailed copies of the 2024 Community Road Report are expected to reach residents in February. Recently completed projects include approximately five miles of improvements across multiple neighborhoods. In 2025, roadwork is scheduled on Los Osos Road, San Andres Avenue, San Dimas Road, Carmelita Road, Colorado Avenue, Lake View Drive, Monterey Road, Navajoa Avenue, San Andres Avenue, and Serra Avenue.
