City announces street closures for 2025 Cruisin’ Weekend 

– The City of Atascadero will host its 2025 Cruisin’ Weekend beginning Aug. 15 with the 32nd annual Hot El Camino Cruise Nite, followed by Dancing in the Streets on Aug. 16.

Hot El Camino Cruise Nite will take place Aug. 15 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on El Camino Real between Traffic Way and Curbaril. The event is a closed and controlled cruise.

The following streets will close at 5 p.m., with a hard closure at 5:30 p.m.:

  • El Camino Real from Curbaril to Traffic Way.
  • East Mall from Palma Avenue to El Camino Real.
  • West Mall from Palma Avenue to El Camino Real.
  • Palma Avenue from West Mall to Traffic Way.
  • Traffic Way from Palma Avenue to El Camino Real, with parking behind El Paseo Plaza remaining open and a soft closure up to Lewis Avenue.
  • San Luis Avenue from Curbaril to Pueblo Avenue.
  • Pueblo Avenue from Sinaloa to San Luis Avenue.
  • Entrada Avenue from El Camino Real to Palma Avenue, with a soft closure at Lewis Avenue.

 

Highway 41 will be closed to through traffic between the U.S. 101 southbound ramps and Santa Ysabel Avenue and will be detoured through Curbaril Avenue and Santa Ysabel Avenue. U.S. 101 northbound on- and off-ramps at Highway 41/El Camino Real in front of the Von’s Center will be closed. Local traffic to the Von’s Center can be accessed off Highway 41 at Santa Ysabel Avenue. Colony Square parking lot can be accessed from Lewis Avenue.

The intersection of El Camino Real and Traffic Way will allow traffic between the U.S. 101 ramps and the north portion of El Camino Real. The Tesla charging station will be closed during the event. Designated pedestrian crossings will be located at Huckleberry’s, East Mall, and Traffic Way.

Rules for all participants include driving cautiously and watching for pedestrians, obeying all traffic signals, signs, and directions from police officers and event staff, and keeping headlights on during the cruise. Prohibited actions include deliberate tire chirping, spinning, or squealing; pouring liquid on the street for tire spinning; speed contests; excessive exhaust noise; passing in the center median; and throwing items from vehicles.

U-turns are permitted only at the designated south end of the route. Vehicles may leave the route to cool down but must re-enter at Pueblo Avenue and El Camino Real. No trailers are allowed. Violations may result in removal from the course, citations, towing, impounding, or arrest.

Classic car registration is available at the Colony Park Community Center, 5599 Traffic Way, before 4 p.m. on Aug. 15. Day-of registration is $45 per vehicle, with a cap of 350 vehicles. More information is available at www.visitatascadero.com/cruise.

Dancing in the Streets will take place Aug. 16 from 5 to 10 p.m. in the Sunken Gardens area of downtown Atascadero. The event will feature community entertainment, four bands, and food and beverage vendors.

The following streets will be closed from 11 a.m. to midnight:

  • West Mall between El Camino Real and Lewis Avenue.
  • East Mall between El Camino Real and Lewis Avenue.
  • Palma Avenue between East Mall and Entrada Avenue.

 

No parking will be allowed on El Camino Real between East Mall and West Mall along Sunken Gardens.
