CHP academy graduates 146 officers in Sacramento ceremony

– The California Highway Patrol welcomed 146 new officers in its largest graduation ceremony since December 2009. The new officers mark a milestone in the Department’s ongoing effort to enhance public safety across California.

After 26 weeks of training at the CHP Academy in West Sacramento, the officers were sworn in to uphold the agency’s mission of safety, service, and security. The Department has sworn in more than 600 officers so far in 2025.

“Today’s graduates embody the heart of service and sacrifice that defines our profession,” said Commissioner Sean Duryee. “These men and women have chosen the path of dedication to others, and we are proud to welcome them into the ranks of law enforcement as they begin their journey to protect and serve California’s communities with integrity and compassion.”

The new officers will be assigned to one of the CHP’s 102 area offices statewide, serving communities across California’s 58 counties.

The graduates represent diverse backgrounds and experiences, including former college athletes, military veterans, correctional officers, and others with prior public safety experience.

Academy training includes instruction in traffic enforcement, crash investigation, defensive tactics, firearms, emergency vehicle operations, and community policing. The curriculum also covers legal responsibilities, communication, ethics, and cultural awareness to prepare officers to serve California’s diverse population.

Following the ceremony, nearly 300 cadets remain in training at the CHP’s live-in facility, with an additional 160 cadets scheduled to begin instruction Oct. 13.

The CHP continues to recruit individuals interested in law enforcement careers. Information on how to apply is available at www.CHPMadeForMore.com.
