Chamber of commerce hosting family-friendly workplace workshop
Workshop will be held Tuesday, Nov. 15 from 3:30-5:30 p.m. at Springhill Suites
– In partnership with SLO County Family-Friendly Workplaces, the Atascadero Chamber of Commerce is hosting a special event aimed at helping businesses increase employee recruitment, retention, overall productivity, and workplace culture through the implementation of family-friendly workplace practices. The workshop will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 15 from 3:30 – 5:30 p.m. at SpringHill Suites by Marriott in Atascadero. An optional networking happy hour will follow until 6 p.m. The cost is $10 for members and $15 for non-members.
This workshop will allow attendees to be face-to-face with experts who are successfully implementing family-friendly practices including flexible and predictable scheduling, sponsored childcare, parental leave, infants at work, and lactation support. Participants will leave the event with new ideas, resources, and processes to best assess and act upon their employees’ needs and interests, increase their bottom line, and enhance their reputation as a family-friendly workplace, which can be an asset in recruitment efforts during the current
labor shortage.
“We’re thrilled to share resources that will help place Atascadero business owners on the path towards stellar workplace culture while decreasing employee turnover rates,” Workforce Development Manager with the SLO County Family-Friendly Workplaces Program Christina Lefevre Latner said, “This workshop will show there are family-friendly workplace practices available to benefit every business, big or small, and in every industry.”
The SLO County Family-Friendly Workplaces program was built on the belief that increasing family-friendliness is essential to support business success, advance diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workforce, and grow our economy. According to a recent Cuesta College-funded study, nearly 1,400 parents in SLO County are unable to work because of family obligations. Businesses that make even simple changes to their policies and practices will be able to reach this untapped workforce and help more parents get back to work. The study concluded that with these individuals working again, the gross regional product of our county could increase by more than $108 million each year.
