Central Coast Zoo opens new ‘Wild Journeys Play Zoo’

City Council members join zoo staff for ribbon cutting

– The Central Coast Zoo held a ribbon-cutting for its new Wild Journeys Play Zoo on Wednesday during a “Noon Year’s Eve” celebration. Members of the City Council and the zoo staff turned out for the event. Mayor Charles Bourbeau cut the ribbon officially opening the new nature-based play area for young children.

Cynthia Stringfield is the new Director of the Central Coast Zoo. She said, “Pairing the opening of the Wild Journeys Play Zoo with our first ever Noon Year’s Eve allows families to celebrate the New Year together in a fun, educational, and memorable way- without staying up past bedtime!”

The zoo thanked sponsors who helped create the new play area, including Service Systems America, El Camino Veterinary Hospital, and the Central Coast Zoo Foundation.

At noon on New Year’s Eve, dozens of visitors braved rain showers to toast the new Play Zoo during the inaugural “Noon Year’s Day” event. The Central Coast Zoo provided a variety of activities highlighted by a festive ball drop at noon. Parents and kids also toasted the Noon Year with sparkling apple cider.
