Central Coast Watercolor Society announces July guest speaker

watercolor workshop

Tricia Reichert will discuss painting skies in watercolor

– The Central Coast Watercolor Society has resumed its monthly meetings. The July program meeting will take place on Tuesday, July 26 in the Wesley Building of the San Luis Obispo United Methodist Church (1515 Fredericks St, SLO). Social time (6:30 p.m.) will be followed by a demonstration at 7 p.m. by Tricia Reichert.

A versatile artist who creates in many media, Reichert was born and raised in England. She studied home economics and textile art at Battersea College, London University, and then taught high school for many years before relocating to the US with her husband.

From a very young child, she had always had a yearning to create, and that original, inventive journey has taken many different forms over the years, including drawing, painting in all media, fabric panels, costumes, theater sets, illustrations, prints, and even unique wedding cakes and invitations. Her other areas of expertise and interest include many forms of printmaking and clay figure and bust sculpture. She is currently a professional commissioned portrait artist with many paintings in private collections in the US and Europe. In fact, she has become a specialist in the practice and theory of portraiture, particularly in pastel and watercolor.

Reichert is also an art teacher working with groups and individuals on a wide range of classes and workshops, both privately and, for sixteen years, through Cal Poly University’s Extended Education division.

Her demo will focus on painting skies in watercolor landscapes. Reichert believes that it is the sky that most often defines the mood of a landscape painting. In her demonstration, she will illustrate a variety of different methods to achieve interesting sky mood effects.

CCWS requires all attendees for all CCWS activities to be fully vaccinated and boosted at least two weeks prior to the event. Masks are optional, but social distancing is required.

Prospective members are encouraged to attend. For more information, contact Publicity Chair Mari O’Brien at (805)-439-0295 or [email protected].
