Caltrans hosts special workers memorial

More than 250 Caltrans Workers from the Central Coast District 5 area convened at the district headquarters in San Luis Obispo to remember those who died while working on the state’s highways.
San Luis Obispo County Supervisors Chair Debbie Arnold and CHP Commander Captain Mike Bueno thanked the Caltrans workers for their service. Captain Bueno reminded them to stay fit and alert.
Alicia Alfaro talked about her brother who was killed while working for Caltrans District 7 several decades ago in Southern California.

Alfaro says Caltrans safety procedures have changed since that tree felling accident killed her brother. Her son now works for District 5.
Six Central Coast Caltrans workers have died on the job since 1931. The most recent was Mike Feliciano, a maintenance while working in southern Monterey County in 2004.

Supervisor Debbie Arnold said motorists need to watch out for Caltrans workers on the state’s highways. She says we all need to remember that it’s a dangerous job.
