Cal Poly’s annual Tomato Spectacular plant sale returns April 5 and 12
Sale will take place at the Environmental Horticultural Sciences Building
– Cal Poly will host its annual Tomato Spectacular plant sale from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on April 5 and April 12 at the Horticulture Unit near the Poly Plant Shop. The sale will feature more than 100 types of tomato plants, including Brandywine, Kellogg’s Breakfast, Vintage Wine, and Nature’s Bites cherry tomatoes. Several new varieties will also be available for purchase.
The event is organized by students from Cal Poly’s College of Agriculture, Food and Environmental Sciences. The students have grown more than 5,000 tomato plants from seeds in campus greenhouses. The sale provides a hands-on learning opportunity for students to apply agricultural skills.
Plants will be available for $7 each on a first-come, first-served basis. No holds or reservations will be accepted. Customers are encouraged to bring their own boxes or wagons to transport their purchases.
The sale will take place at the Environmental Horticultural Sciences Building (No. 48) on Via Carta Road, accessible from Highland Drive. A catalog of available varieties will be available online on March 26 at polyplantshop.com.
Cal Poly’s College of Agriculture, Food and Environmental Sciences offers students access to laboratories, ranch land, orchards, vineyards, and forests. With 4,000 undergraduate students, it is the fifth-largest agricultural college in the country.
