Basic emergency response training class offered in Atascadero 

Disaster preparedness training offered in Paso Robles in July/August

Classes will be held at the Colony Park Community Center

– The San Luis Obispo County Community Emergency Response Team (SLO County CERT) will offer a 24-hour CERT Basic Training Course in Atascadero to teach disaster preparedness, response and recovery skills.

The course is open to participants age 15 and older. Topics include disaster preparation, the CERT organization, basic first aid, the psychology of disasters, extinguishing small fires, searching structures, rescuing victims, terrorism and hazardous materials.

Classes will be held at the Colony Park Community Center, Arts Crafts Room, 5599 Traffic Way, on Aug. 12, Aug. 14, Aug. 19 and Aug. 21 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. The final session will take place on Aug. 23 from 9 a.m. to about 5 p.m. and will include a review and disaster exercise. Participants must attend all sessions to complete the course and receive a certificate.

The cost is $40 per person or family. Registration is available online at Atascadero.org by clicking on Activities and Recreation, then Register for a Class or Activity. In-person registration is available at the Colony Park Community Center front desk from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
