Atascadero wrestling team honored for academic achievements
– Atascadero High School’s wrestling team was one of 29 teams to be recognized as academic champions for the 2014-15 school year by the California Interscholastic Federation on Tuesday.
The program began in 1996 as a way to reward teams with the highest collective grade-point-averages, based on an unweighted 4.0 scale, in their respective sport. The CIF State Academic Team Champions will receive a banner for display in their school gyms to recognize this accomplishment.
“What a great reflection of what they were able to accomplish in the classroom and on the mat, this is something the school community is very proud of,” Atascadero High School Athletic Director Sam DeRose said. “In the past we have been recognized for that in our section, but to be recognized in our state is phenomenal.”
The varsity wrestling team was coached Trevor Tice with assistant coach Dan Pry.
