Atascadero Rotary donates $3,000 to Nepal victims
The Atascadero Rotary Club funded three ShelterBoxes at $1,000 each to help victims of the Nepal earthquake. These boxes contain the essentials people need to survive and begin rebuilding their lives in the aftermath of a disaster.
The quake was responsible for an estimated death toll of more than 5,000 people and took the homes of 100,000 more.
“When the club heard about the earthquake in Nepal, we immediately began thinking about how we could help,” says Rotary Club of Atascadero President John Hollenbeck. “We hope that our donation, coupled with the several thousands of other Rotary clubs, can bring help and stability to the families who are trying to recover from this disaster.”
The Rotary’s donation to ShelterBoxUSA will go directly to providing victims with a tent for a family, thermal blanket and groundsheets, water storage and purification equipment, solar lamps, cooking utensils, a basic tool kit, mosquito nets and children’s activity pack.
“We are happy to support an organization like ShelterBoxUSA that gives hope to people in crisis situations like this,” says Hollenbeck.
ShelterBoxUSA has responded to over 240 disasters and humanitarian crises in more than 90 different countries and provided emergency aid for well over one million people.
