Atascadero recreation division offering water polo, lifeguarding camps
Both camps run Monday-Friday, Aug. 8-12
–The City of Atascadero’s Recreation Division is offering water polo and “Guard Start” lifeguarding camps this summer. Both camps are open to boys and girls 11 to 16 years of age and will run Monday through Friday, August 8-12 from 4-5 p.m.
The Guard Start lifeguarding camp is designed to build individuals skills necessary to pass the Red Cross lifeguarding course. The camp will not qualify a participant to be a lifeguard, however it will serve as a foundation for further training in lifeguarding and aquatics. The Guard Start camp emphasizes teamwork, leadership and aquatic safety, and most of all fun. Program staff are CPR, first-aid and Title 22 certified lifeguards as well as water safety instructors.
The water polo camp is for beginning and intermediate players. The goal is to develop shooting and dribbling skills along with working on offensive and defensive skills. Participants must bring a swim suit and towel. Throughout this fun filled week campers will learn more about water polo, learn about what skills they want to work on and play some games.
Space is limited for both camps so sign up early. Camps take place at the Atascadero High School pool. Pre-registration is required and can be done online at www.atascadero.org or in person at the Colony Park Community Center, 5599 Traffic Way.
