Atascadero Recreation adds dog obedience class to offerings
–Beginning Dog Obedience has added a Thursday class offered July 26 through Aug. 30 from 6:30-7:30 p.m. The Beginning Dog Obedience class will cover sit-stand-down, walking on a leash without pulling, come when called, sit and down-stay.
Karen Clanin has been instructing classes at all levels since 1969 and has been with the City of Atascadero since 1979. Karen’s methods focus on positive reinforcement and making the learning fun for the owner, as well as the dog.
For the first class, bring your dog with their own collar and leash (no harnesses please). Proper equipment will be discussed in the first class. Also, bring a smelly, tasty, easy to swallow training treat. Karen suggests keeping the treats in a fanny pack so they are easy to access.
Please bring a copy of your dog’s immunization record, available from your vet, to the first class for Karen to keep. The class is scheduled for 1 hour, but may run over slightly, so please allow the additional time. An adult must accompany children under 13, as they may require additional assistance. This class is not for aggressive dogs, if you have questions about your dog’s personality, please contact Karen so she may meet with you privately for an evaluation. Please no wolf or wolf-hybrid dogs in this class.
Classes take place at Karen’s indoor facility in Atascadero. After registration, she will contact you with directions. Pre-registration is required. You can register at Colony Park Community Center, 5599 Traffic Way, or online at www.atascadero.org. For additional information, call (805) 470-3360.
