Atascadero Printery Building renovation gains momentum

Building was designed in 1913 by EG Lewis and Associates to provide a printing operation at the Atascadero Colony

– A public meeting held on Wednesday morning at the Atascadero City Council Chambers updated the community on efforts to renovate the Printery Building.

Karen McNamara first described the history of the building, which was designed in 1913 by EG Lewis and Associates to provide a printing operation at the Atascadero Colony. At one time, it was the largest printing business west of the Mississippi. McNamara is now spearheading efforts to renovate and reopen the elegant old building.

Volunteers involved with the effort to renovate the old building reported on their progress. This included marketing, fundraising, and construction efforts.

McNamara described some of the potential uses of the building. She also talked about the construction, which is now underway, to shore up the building. Several local officials attended, including Atascadero Mayor Charles Bourbeau, who spoke about the building’s importance to the community. Council Member Susan Funk also attended the informational meeting on Wednesday at the Rotunda.

Karen says a Gala fundraiser will be held on Nov. 9 at the Printery to raise money for its renovation. Tickets for the event are $110 to celebrate the Printery’s 110th birthday.
