Atascadero Police warn public about phone scam

Scam caller impersonates Atascadero police, demands money

– Atascadero police are warning residents about a phone scam involving a caller who falsely claims to be a representative of the police department and requests money.

According to the department, the scam involves individuals receiving phone calls from someone impersonating law enforcement and asking for funds. Police emphasized that no legitimate law enforcement agency will ever call to request money over the phone.

“If you receive one of these calls, do not provide any personal or financial information and hang up immediately,” the department stated.

Residents with questions or who wish to report such a call can contact the Atascadero Police Department directly at (805) 461-5051.

For more information about common scams and frauds, the department directed the public to visit www.usa.gov/scams-and-fraud.
