Atascadero Police Department offers gun injury prevention program for kids

-The Atascadero Police Department is offering a program on gun injury prevention for children 3-6 years of age and their parents. The course will be held on Saturday, Sept 23 from 10 – 11 a.m. at the Atascadero Police Department, 5505 El Camino Real. The class is free.

The course covers four easy to learn steps in gun injury prevention using the National Rifle Associations “Eddie Eagle GunSafe Program.” This program is a gun accident prevention program that seeks to help parents, law enforcement, community groups and educators to navigate a topic paramount to our children’s safety. Eddie and his Wing Team are on a mission to help teach young children on what to do if they ever come across a gun. The four main steps to be reviewed will be to “Stop, Don’t Touch, Run Away and Tell a Grown-up.”

For more information and to sign up for this free class, please contact the police department Community Services Officer, Lauren-Ashley Purify, at (805) 461-5051 or email her at [email protected]. The class is expected to fill up quickly.
