Atascadero police say human remains discovered are likely Native American

Police pursue subject on motorcycle

–On Wednesday at approximately 8:38 a.m., an Atascadero Police Officer was traveling near the area of US 101 and Morro Road when he observed a subject riding a motorcycle commit several traffic violations in front of him, according to a news release from Atascadero police.

The officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the subject for the violations but the rider failed to yield and a pursuit ensued. The pursuit happened on surface streets at high speeds, but the pursuit was ultimately terminated for public safety concerns as the rider rode into the Atascadero Lake Park area.

Units remained stationed near the Lake Park area.

A passerby reported seeing the subject hide the motorcycle on San Francisco Road and flee on foot. An officer established a perimeter around the Lake Park area and the assistance of the California Highway Patrol Air Support Unit was requested to find the subject.

During a search of the Lake Park area, Shaun Michael Riley, 42-years-old, of Bradley, was found hiding in a porta potty on Azucena Ave.

Riley was taken into custody without incident and was ultimately transported to the San Luis Obispo County Jail. Riley was booked on charges of felony evading, possession of a controlled substance and a probation violation.
