Atascadero Police commander Wilshusen retires after 27 years 

Officer served as detective, sergeant, and commander since joining

– Commander Jeff Wilshusen has retired from the Atascadero Police Department after 27 years of service.

Wilshusen held various positions during his career with the department. While assigned to patrol, he served as a field training officer, SWAT team member, rangemaster, and department instructor. He was later promoted to corporal, where he contributed to the training and development of future police officers.

He spent a significant portion of his career in investigations, working as both a special enforcement detective and a crimes against persons detective. His work led to numerous case resolutions. Wilshusen received the Distinguished Service Award from the United States Attorney General’s Office and was named Officer of the Year by the Footprinters Association.

In 2009, Wilshusen was promoted to sergeant. He supervised patrol teams and later served for four years as the detective sergeant. In 2024, he was promoted to commander and oversaw the department’s administrative division.
