Atascadero library celebrates one year in new location
Atascadero library opened in its current location on Capistrano Avenue in June 2014. On Saturday, June 13 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The Friends of the Atascadero Library, along with the staff, wil host a one-year anniversary celebration and will unveil the Radiant Reading Oak in Captain’s Corner. The library opened at its new location on Capistrano Avenue in June 2014.
“It’s been really good,” Friends of the Atascadero Library Board Member and chair of Speakers and Special Events Committee Leigh Livik said of the last year. “Library visitations are way up since we’re been in the new location. Books sale revenues are much more than it used to be.”
Since the move, Friends of the Atascadero Library and library staff have been trying out different programs. Some, Livik said, have been well received and others haven’t. One change is having a bi-monthly art show and reception throughout the library. The Atascadero Art Association held quarterly art shows in the community room at the old library, but have not in the Capistrano Avenue location. The current exhibit is “The American Dream,” which includes a selection from eight artists: Lauren Birkhahn, Erin Calderon, Eve Chartrand, Marjory Cush, Helen Davie, Robin Noble, Cheryl Strahl and Guillermo Willie. The show in August and September will be of Joe Schwartz photography.
“The numbers [of visitors and new library cards issued] are really impressive,” Livik said.
