Atascadero hotel guests evacuated due to smoke

On Wednesday, the Atascadero Fire Department was dispatched to a report of smoke from the top floor of SpringHill Suites at 900 El Camino Real in Atascadero.

Atascadero Fire responded along with Paso Robles Fire Department, Cal Fire, Atascadero Police Department and San Luis Ambulance at approximately 8:45 p.m.

The cause of the smoke was found to be a curling iron that had been left on and resting on a plastic brush that had melted and damaged the counter top. The smoke was removed from the floor and the guests were allowed back to their rooms.

No one was injured and property damages were minor and mostly smoke related and estimated at $1,000. Estimated property value saved by the firefighters was $10 million.
