Atascadero hosting meeting about running for office

–The City of Atascadero is hosting a public forum, The Nuts and Bolts of Running for Public Office, on Wednesday, July 11, at 5 p.m. at City Hall and the public is invited. If you are planning to run for office, thinking about running for office or just interested in the process, you should attend this forum.

At the forum, the City Clerk will explain the election process; the paperwork involved, candidate statements, campaign sign regulations and the Code of Fair Campaign Practices. This is your opportunity to learn more about how city government works.

Atascadero City Council is the city’s policy-making body, responsible for the enactment of programs, policies and services of the city. The City Council acts upon all legislative matters concerning the city, approving and adopting ordinances, resolutions, contracts and other matters requiring overall policy decisions and leadership. The City Manager, City Attorney and various commissions, boards and citizens advisory committees are appointed by City Council. They conduct the city’s business at council meetings that are open to the public. The City Treasurer is responsible for ensuring that city funds are invested in a manner consistent with the City’s Investment Policy to achieve maximum safety, liquidity and yield. The treasurer also produces a quarterly report on the status of cash and investments.

In the City of Atascadero, there is a General Municipal Election every two years on the even years and the regular, general election is held the first Tuesday in November. In 2018, the citizens of Atascadero will cast votes for not only candidates for a Mayor, but also for two Council seats, a City Treasurer and two ballot measures. Atascadero residents, wishing to run for municipal public office this election season, must file for candidacy with the City Clerk between July 16 and August 10.
