Atascadero Greyhounds beat Colusa 21-0 at playoffs
Greyhounds now advance to state championship game Saturday
– The Atascadero High School Greyhound Football team beat the Colusa Redhawks 21-0 in the State Playoffs Saturday night at Colusa. The Greyhounds scored a touchdown in each of the first quarters, and shut out the Redhawks.
Trey Cooks scored twice on short runs, but he and his brother, Kane Cooks each had long runs which set up touchdowns for the Greyhounds. With the win, the Greyhounds advance to the State Championship game Saturday against San Gabriel of Alhambra. The game will be played Saturday at Atascadero High School.
The San Gabriel Matadors beat Kennedy of Granada Hills 46-34 Saturday night. They are 12-3 for the season. Because they were 2-3 in conference, they dropped to the lower division under the CIF’s new equity protocol. They are ranked #470 among all California football teams. That’s as of Sunday. They are ranked three places below Pioneer Valley of Santa Maria.
The Greyhounds are ranked #333 among all high schools in the state in the most recent ranking. They are 10-4, 5-1 in league. After losing their first three games, they won 10 out of their last eleven games. Their only loss was a 21-20 loss to Pioneer Valley, which they avenged 27-13 in the CIF Central Section Title game.
The Greyhounds’ CIF State Championship Game against San Gabriel will be played at 6 p.m. Saturday night at Atascadero High School.
