Atascadero City Council honors employees

Fourteen Atascadero City employees from the Fire Department, Emergency Dispatch, and the Police Department received commendations for outstanding service during a fire in the 8600 block of San Gabriel.
Commendations given for stolen vehicle recoveries, rescuing a citizen from a burning building
-The Atascadero City Council recognized several employees during Tuesday night’s meeting. The employee recognition included police officers, firefighters and emergency dispatchers for exceptional duty and retired Interim Fire Chief Mike Hubert for his service to the city.
Officer Brett Mobely received the 10851 Award from Police Chief Jarel Haley for recovering eight stolen vehicles in 2016. The 10851 Award Program was named after the section of the California Vehicle Code that deals with auto theft and is awarded to California police officers jointly by the California Highway Patrol and local agencies. Four of the stolen vehicles recovered by Mobley were occupied at the time.

Fourteen police, fire and emergency dispatch employees were commended for rescuing a man trapped from a burning structure in Sept. 2016. Atascadero Fire and Police Departments received a call the night of Sept. 21 and responded to the 8600 block of San Gabriel. One of the emergency dispatchers stayed on the line with man who was trapped on the second floor while the second dispatcher relayed directions to the response teams. Police on the scene were able to keep the man calm until firefighters rescued him. Those recognized were: Captain Scott Hallett, Captain Bill White, engineers Thomas Little and Christopher Robinson, firefighters Brandon Roberts, Zach Jackson, Nathan Goosens and Stephen Cochran; dispatchers Anjenett Ordonez and Shannon Neall and police officers Steve Stucky, Chris Hall, Ryan Sloan and John Taylor.
Each employee was awarded a plaque, ribbon bar and a letter of commendation. Interim Fire Chief Casey Bryson and Chief Haley awarded the plaques and ribbon bars. Bryson commended the inter-agency coordination and cooperation for this fire and credited the teamwork and professionalism for rescuing the trapped man in less than 10 minutes.
Retired Interim Fire Chief Mike Hubert also received a commendation for his service to the fire department and Atascadero residents.
