Atascadero City Council discusses issue of RV parking
—The problem of parked RV’s on public streets in Atascadero has drawn the attention of the Atascadero City Council, who addressed these concerns at the city council meeting on Mar. 27. A resident on Santa Ysabel had sent an email that started this conversation regarding an RV that has been parked on the street for several weeks and was red tagged.
“At some point in the very near future, we need to bring this forward and talk about banning RV parking on our public streets and residential zones, at least in the multi-family and perhaps in other portions of town,” said Mayor Pro Tem Roberta Fonzi during the meeting.
Fonzi also noted that seeing RV’s parked in residential neighborhoods is becoming more common with sufficient parking spots already an issue. Parking RV’s in a yard is acceptable.
The RV parking ban may be put in the camping ordinance, which also states that tents cannot be on the street, but it is still in the early stages of development. Mayor Tom O’Malley supported further discussion on the issue, and it was delegated to city manager Rachelle Rickard to place in an agenda for a future meeting.
