Atascadero City Council discusses evacuation planning, financial audit
–The Atascadero City Council held a brief, virtual meeting Tuesday night. Although citizens could not attend, they could watch the meeting on Cable TV or listen to the broadcast on KPRL. They could also call in and comment on issues during the meeting.
City Manager Rachelle Rickard and Fire Chief Casey Bryson talked about evacuation planning in the event of an emergency in the city. The intent is to create zones to facilitate evacuation.
Rickard described the Measure D-20 outreach study sessions. She said the meetings are live, but only available virtually on the internet. She said the city is encouraging input on how best to spend money generated by the 1-percent sales tax approved by voters in the recent General Election- Measure D-20. Each meeting lasts about 90 minutes, including a video describing city services and how they’re funded. The next D-20 Study Session will be Thursday evening at 6 p.m. The public is encouraged to participate.
The city council also received the financial audit for the period which ended June 30, 2020. The financial management of the city is enhanced by the fact both Rickard and Mayor Heather Moreno are certified public accountants.
The council also received an update on COVID-19 in the city, including the impact of the recent decision by the governor to remove his Shelter-at-Home Order. Citizens are encouraged to buy local and take advantage of local restaurants, breweries and retail businesses.
The council adjourned at 8:15 p.m. Tuesday night.
