Artists invited to explore chaos in new Morro Bay show

Featured artist for new exhibition is Mark Selby
– Art reflects the times we live in, and many artists have responded to the uniquely stressful and chaotic environment of recent years. The COVID-19 pandemic created a springboard for new material and voices, leading to expressions that range from unity to fear and distrust. Artists interpret a variety of issues, including political upheaval, homelessness, climate change, sexual identity, and women’s rights. Through their work, they offer opinions, soothe emotions, and help audiences digest and understand the world around them.
Art Center Morro Bay invites all artists, regardless of medium, to participate in a new show that reflects and helps viewers understand contemporary challenges. Artists may choose to confront chaos directly or provide a refuge from it through their work.
The featured artist for this exhibition is Mark Selby, a local artist known for his talents in paintings, sculpture, and etchings.
Entry requirements for the show have been updated, and artists should review the following guidelines before submitting their work. Entries are limited to two smaller pieces or one larger piece. Art that is solely based on artificial intelligence will not be accepted unless authorized in advance by the gallery director.
The exhibition will take place at Art Center Morro Bay, located at 835 Main St., Morro Bay, CA, from Sept. 19 to Nov. 4. Artist take-in will occur on Sept. 17 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., with artist pick-up on Nov. 5 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. An artist’s reception is scheduled for Sept. 22 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
