Artist Joe Schwartz to exhibit at the Atascadero Library

“Tricycle Gang” 1940s Herkimer Street, Bedford Stuyvesant, Brooklyn New York.

–An exhibit entitled “Ordinary People Getting Along” will feature the remarkable artistry of Joe Schwartz, beginning February 5 and continuing through March 30 at the Atascadero Library.

From the 1930s to the 1980s, Schwartz photographed the everyday activities of children and adults; today his work leads viewers to a richer understanding of the connections between people, regardless of racial differences.

An exhibition of the Joe Schwartz Photo Archive resides at the newly opened Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington, D.C. The J. Paul Getty Museum of Los Angeles also has a collection of his work.

On Thursday, Feb. 8, the library will host a reception from 5:30-7 p.m. to kick-off this exhibit. Light refreshments will be served, and everyone is welcome.
