Aktion Club delivers handmade blankets to ECHO shelter
Aktion Club formed to empower adults with disabilities
– The Atascadero Kiwanis Aktion Club donated 20 handmade, hand-tied blankets to children staying at El Camino Homeless Organization’s shelter, according to a statement issued July 30. The donation is part of the club’s ongoing community service work.
ECHO CEO Wendy Lewis attended a recent Aktion Club meeting at Escuela del Rio, where she thanked the club for its support.
“Receiving these beautiful handmade blankets means so much to the children and families we serve,” Lewis said. “The care and effort the Aktion Club members put into creating them truly embodies the spirit of community and compassion.”
The Atascadero Kiwanis Aktion Club was chartered in 2009 in partnership with Escuela del Rio. It was formed to provide adults with developmental disabilities the opportunity to contribute to their community and build leadership skills.
“After needing to be cared for all my life by others, Kiwanis Aktion Club has given me the opportunity to do things for people less fortunate than myself and put a smile on their face!” said Brian Atwell, advisor for the Atascadero Kiwanis Aktion Club.
Aktion Club is the only service club for adults with disabilities, with more than 7,200 members worldwide. The organization is sponsored by local Kiwanis clubs and focuses on leadership development, teamwork, community service and citizenship.
The Atascadero Kiwanis Aktion Club has supported ECHO for several years through various service efforts.
