– Air Supply will perform at Vina Robles Amphitheatre on July 12 as part of their 50th anniversary tour. Tickets go on sale through Ticketmaster at 10 a.m. on May 16.
The duo, comprised of Russell Hitchcock and Graham Russell, is celebrating 50 years since their first meeting on May 12, 1975, during a production of Jesus Christ Superstar in Australia. Since forming Air Supply, the group has played more than 5,560 concerts internationally and continues to perform roughly 130 shows per year.
Known for hit songs such as “Lost in Love,” “All Out of Love,” “Sweet Dreams,” “Even the Nights Are Better,” “Two Less Lonely People in the World,” and “Making Love Out of Nothing at All,” Air Supply has sold 20 million copies of their first three studio albums and their 1983 greatest hits collection. Five of their singles have earned multi-million radio plays.
Air Supply was the first Western band to tour China and has performed in several countries that previously restricted pop music. In 2005, the band performed for a crowd of 175,000 people in Cuba. Billboard recently ranked Air Supply at No. 36 on its Hot 100 list of all-time top duos and groups.
The group continues to perform with a supporting band under the direction of lead guitarist Aaron McLain. Other band members include Mirko Tessandori on piano, Pavel Valdman on drums, and Doug Gild on bass.
In addition to the tour, Air Supply will release their 18th studio album, A Matter of Time, produced by Brian Howes. Other upcoming projects include a biopic titled All Out of Love: The Air Supply Story, a Broadway comedy-drama musical featuring their songs, and a vinyl compilation of remastered hits. Graham and Russell also plan to publish an autobiography.
Reflecting on the milestone, Graham Russell said, “I’m grateful that I’ve had an incredible life so far and find it very fulfilling that our songs mean so much to people everywhere we travel. It’s also been wonderful to work with and meet so many great people and to have had such a long friendship with Russell that is the envy of so many.”
Russell Hitchcock added, “We are so grateful to have a legacy that we can be proud of and that our music has meant so much to so many for this long.”
